Kuwait: More than two million expatriates and over one million Kuwaitis reside in Kuwait. As unemployment among Kuwaitis increases, many experts have begun questioning why Kuwait needs such a high number of expats to work in the country. The ‘Kuwaitization’ law, aimed at increasing the number of Kuwaitis in the work force including the private sector, has led to a decrease in employment of non-Kuwaitis.

Overstaying visitors to pay KD 10/day, to be banned for two years

visit-visa Kuwait: Violating the period of stay while on visit to Kuwait generates a fine of KD 10 each day and maximum of KD 1,000, reports Al-Shahid daily. The daily quoting reliable sources from the Ministry of Interior added that individuals on visit visa violating the residency law will be banned from entering the country for two years, while their sponsors will not be permitted to grant sponsorship to other people for one year.

Interior Ministry introduces sponsorship amendments

Kuwait – The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has announced the introduction of a new ruling under which which Kuwaiti women married to non-Kuwaitis will be able to sponsor their husbands and children, a move which one prominent local women’s rights activist said had been pending for two decades.

Kuwaiti sentenced to death for growing marijuana

Kuwait’s criminal court on Sunday sentenced a Kuwaiti national to death by hanging for growing marijuana in his home garden.The man was arrested by the police following tips that he used his garden in Al Qusoor, in Al Mubarak Al Kabeer area, to grow marijuana and sell it.

Filipinas killed by husband, employers

Kuwait – Two Filipinas were killed in Kuwait this week, one by her husband and the other by her employers.The Egyptian husband has reportedly stabbed his Filipina wife 31 times in front of her colleagues and customers at a woman’s salon in Jabriya. The victim died before paramedics reached the crime scene, a Kuwaiti Times report said. Related – Egyptian husband arrested.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has issued an alert for a missing 15-year-old female teenager who Florida authorities say may be in or heading to North Platte.According to Lincoln County Chief Deputy Sheriff Dean Sparks, Eman Mohammad Al Sayegh, a Kuwaiti national, and her family were vacationing in Kissimmee, Fla., at the time of her disappearance.
