Authorities seeks to block unidentified mobile accounts

Kuwait – Kuwait’s state security has asked mobile operators to block the accounts of people who have left or been deported from the country.The move is to help tackle the high number of hoax bomb threats made trough mobile phones whose owners could not be traced, Kuwaiti daily Al Jareeda reported on Thursday, quoting sources it did not name.

Ministry targets 700 phone lines used to harass citizens & expats

Kuwait – Ministry of Interior Undersecretary Lieutenant General Ahmad Al-Rujaib has forwarded a letter to the Ministry of Communications, including a list of around 700 telephone numbers used by callers who have been harassing citizens, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources.

Kuwait Airways Holiday packages booking on internet next month

Kuwait – Commercial state carrier, Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC), is set to offer internet booking next month for its holiday packages for the summer, a senior member of staff said here Saturday. Head of the Holidays Department at the airline, Khalaf Al-Manea, told KUNA that the booking for the package tours will be open to travel agencies in June and customers in August.

Need to provide affordable international calls to expats

Kuwait – Personnel from the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Communication raided 39 Internet cafes in Salmiya and Hawalli and arrested 22 persons due to their violation of residency laws and involvement in call trading (Arab Times May 5, 2010). The call trading gang installed around 216 landlines telephone instruments, PCs for their customers! What is “remarkable” in this recent crime update is not the arrest of such culprits, but the continuation of illegal call trading.

KD 290 million earmarked for Kuwait airport expansion

Kuwait – Director of Projects Management Directorate at the General Directorate for Civil Aviation (GDCA Mahdi Saleh Al-Dekhail has confirmed that the movement of passengers at Kuwait International Airport exceeds 8 million passengers a year, which is over and above the capacity of Kuwait International Airport’s (KIA) facilities, adding that an expansion of the airport must be carried out as soon as possible.

Zain City exhibition opened

Marine Internet cable cut in February for the third time in a row

Kuwait – The marine cable, FiberـOptic Gulf cable (FOG), extending outside Kuwait toward the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has been severed suddenly. The causes of the incident remain unknown and investigation is underway.FOG is highly important because it is the Kuwait”s cable for connection to the outside community. International lines and Internet connections flow through this cable. Sources revealed to Al Watan that to fix such a malfunction, it would take a minimum of 10 days.

Zain & Bharti to sign letter of intent soon – Report

Kuwait – Kuwaiti telecoms firm Zain and India’s Bharti Airtel are expected to sign a letter of intent for the $9 billion African assets deal this week, a Kuwaiti newspaper reported on Sunday.The letter will include the official offer and the schedule of payment, al-Rai newspaper said in an unsourced report.

Zain gets GSMA award for mobile banking service
