Kuwait MoC plans to block Twitter
KUWAIT: The Ministry of Communications has not informed the Twitter administration about its plan to block the microblogging site in Kuwait due to the mounting political tension caused by controversial posts on the Twitter accounts of local users, reports Alam Alyawm daily quoting sources.
Sources explained the ministry has a mechanism for monitoring social networking sites; hence, it is not obliged to inform the administrations of these websites about its intention to block them.
Sources said the ministry decided to take this step after observing the prevalence of defamatory statements on Twitter, pointing out there are laws for curbing such malpractices and several cases have been forwarded to the Kuwaiti courts.
