Indian embassy Kuwait celebrates Republic Day
KUWAIT: The Indian embassy Kuwait celebrated India’s 63rd Republic Day in an atmosphere of joy and patriotic fervor. A large number of Indians from different walks of life including hundreds of school children and women flocked to the embassy to participate in the celebration, one of the most significant days on India’s national calendar.
At a colorful ceremony held on the embassy premises, Indian Ambassador Satish C Mehta hoisted the national tricolor at 9 am marking 63 years since the establishment of India’s Constitution. Top diplomats, embassy officials, Indian community members and media persons attended the ceremony.
Following the flag-hoisting ceremony, Ambassador Mehta read out Indian President Pratibha Patil’s address to the nation. The ambassador also conveyed his best wishes to HH the Amir, HH the Crown Prince, HH the Premier as well as the people of Kuwait on the occasion.
The girls’ brass band of the Indian Community School, Salmiya gave a dazzling performance followed by singing of patriotic songs by children from Indian Community School (Amman branch), India International School, Mangaf and Indian Public School, Salmiya.
The ambassador interacted with the community members including various groups of school children, exchanging greetings and pleasantries with them.
Talking to the Friday Times, the ambassador said, “On the occasion of the 63rd Republic Day of India, I convey my very warm greetings to all the Indians in Kuwait and all the readers of the Friday Times.”
“I hope this occasion would help all Indians to redouble their efforts in the development of India and contributing towards it. On this important day in 1950, we gave ourselves the constitution,” Mehta said.
He said, India’s constitution reflects the country’s ideals and values and its aspirations as a nation. “In the last 63 years, we have come a long away. Today, our polity is very strong and our democracy is the envy of the world,” he said.
The ambassador said that the country is an example of extreme unity in diversity. “As we move forward, I’m sure that all Indians will rejoice and seek inspirations from the distance we have covered in the last 63 years and redouble their efforts to make India one of the best countries in the world, a country where everyone is happy, educated, healthy and wealthy,” he added.
