Kuwait: It seems that marriage has become an easy way to get the residency and become entitled to live in Kuwait. This is what happened in Kuwait following the issuance of the ministerial decision that Kuwaiti women are entitled to sponsor their foreign husbands.

Accordingly, some people took advantage of the decision and married Kuwaiti women in order to get the residencies and be sponsored by their wives.

Sources said that this phenomenon has widely spread to the extent that some agencies in Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Jordan and other countries play the role of mediators and persuade women to only write bogus marriage contracts in return of about 100,000 US dollars (about 30,000 Kuwaiti dinars). Security authorities are currently investigating a case involving an Iraqi man who married an old Kuwaiti woman in return of KD 30,000.

Sources said that the Iraqis pay huge sums of money to marry Kuwaiti women as Syrians and Jordanians are paying around KD 20,000, while Egyptians pay KD 10,000 dinars. The sources said that the amount of money paid increases when it is difficult to stamp a residency for the husband due to security controls.
