Is Kuwaiti citizenship up for sale?

The problem does not lie in the acute lack of information nor does it lie in the gross lack of knowledge. The problem however lies in the continued lack of vision and insight and bowing down to loud yet vacant calls. All this will only result in Kuwait repeatedly continuing to commit the same mistakes over and over again for years to come.

Being born with Kuwaiti nationality is an honorary privilege. The State, the people of Kuwait and all those who just want to lay their hands on being granted that privileged Kuwaiti citizenship are fully aware of this fact. Everyone knows that being conferred with the Kuwaiti nationality is like cracking the jackpot. Because of the huge benefits involved in being granted with the Kuwaiti nationality – both monetarily and otherwise, scores of people struggle and exert great efforts to attain it, especially the children of non-Kuwaiti fathers.

They’d resort to doing anything just to be granted the nationality even if it necessitates getting married to older or disabled men, hopelessly addicted drug victims, already married and divorced spouses, or worse still – through paying money to unscrupulous Kuwaiti men who are usually game for anything in exchange for a fistful of Kuwaiti dinars.

The number of people queuing up to be granted the Kuwaiti citizenship has touched an all-time high of 50,000 eagerly-anticipating applicants. The biggest mistake that was committed by the State was when it issued a decision stating that non-Kuwaiti women married to Kuwaitis would be entitled to get the nationality conferred upon them after five years of uninterrupted marriage.

This is a relatively short period to be considered for an important issue like this – as unscrupulous wives, or those with malicious intent will not mind waiting for a measly five years in order to be conferred the nationality and then – file for divorce from their husbands after being bestowed the key to life-long salvation. The Ministry of Justice’s statistical records indicate that it wholly supports this point of view.

The other serious mistake that is being committed by the State is through its decision not to withdraw the citizenship of those women whose divorce proceedings are legally finalized by the courts; as is the case with women demanding divorce in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The nationality is also not withdrawn from women who are involved in crimes during their marriages.

Oman employs stricter laws regarding this issue. Wives of Omani men are legally not allowed to live in Oman unless they are Omanis or citizens from any of the Gulf countries. Omani men are allowed to marry foreign women but have to live with them outside the boundaries of that country.

The file of citizenship is not being dealt with properly and as it should be dealt with by the authorities – to the extent that some MPs have even gone to the extent of demanding the naturalization of all non-Kuwaiti women that are married to Kuwaitis even without getting the consent from their respective husbands. The Ministry of Interior is inconvenienced with so many problems that are caused by foreign women who have been granted the Kuwaiti citizenship such as their ventures in establishing bogus companies in order to trade in visas.

It has become absolutely necessary now, to set new conditions in being granted the Kuwaiti nationality – as is, with other Gulf States, at least bearing in mind the safety, security and protection of Kuwaiti women. Such rigid controls will effectively decrease the rate of spinsterhood in the country to a very great extent. It is definitely not acceptable that these women deal with us as if they were sheikhas and shout at us indignantly by flashing their Kuwaiti nationality on our faces.

If the officials intend to seek the best interests of this country and are genuinely concerned about the welfare of its citizens, they should grant the nationality to women who have been married to Kuwaitis for at least 20 years and have borne them children from that marriage. They should also strip the nationality of the non-Kuwaiti spouse immediately after a divorce has been filed from either side are finalized by the Kuwaiti courts or in cases where laws are trampled upon. This law should be applied retroactively on one and all in order to restore peace and harmony among citizens in society instead of igniting fuel to this horrid state of utter chaos, confusion and discord.

this is absurd, you have no sense of the real victim here. i will say 99.99% of interracial marriages are between elders who are lusting for young teenage girls under 18yrs, much younger. they abuse and violate those innocent girls once bought from their families and brought here and treat them like servants and a mean to satisfy their sick selfish needs. As years passes by and the girls become women and have children, the men lose interest and abandon them.
the law tries to justify them giving them some of their rights back knowing what they went and going through and compensate them and their children for that.
