No more amnesty period for illegal residents
Kuwait – No further amnesty period will be allowed for illegal residents in the near future, said an official from the Ministry of Interior. He denied reports which claimed that a new amnesty program was listed on the Minister of Interior’s agenda.
The official said that MoI will not tolerate expatriates who flout laws and regulations. He also stressed that offenders could legalize their stay in Kuwait by resorting to proper channels after paying fines. “Legal status adjustment is open at all times for those who want it,” he added. He noted that various concerned MoI authorities, including criminal investigation detectives and immigration detectives, would continue to track down and arrest residence permit violators, reported Al-Anbaa.
Moreover, the official highlighted that the numbers of illegal residents in Kuwait varied from time to time and that at present they exceeded 60,000, “Once any of these 60,000 residents are arrested, they will be deported, blacklisted and banned from returning to Kuwait,” he concluded.
