Ministries alter working hours and timings during Ramadan

Kuwait has asked 22 government ministries and establishments to work from 8.30 am until 1 pm during the month of Ramadan. The civil service bureau said that all ministries and government agencies would work five days a week, from Sunday until Thursday.

However, it said that only 22 of them would open between 8.30 and 1 while the rest would work from 9 am until 1.30 pm. The flexible timing would help ease traffic congestions.

“Ministries or government agencies that require a change to their daily timings should contact the civil service bureau to discuss the matter and agree on timings,” the bureau said in a statement carried by Kuwaiti daily Al Qabas.

Ramadan, Muslims’ holy month, is expected to start on August 11.Work hours are traditionally shorter in Kuwait’s public and private sectors.
