MEW Employee canceled KD 80,000 worth of fees for bribes

Kuwait – The Minister of Electricity and Water Bader Al-Shuraian referred an employee at Consumer’s Affairs Sector to Public Prosecution.The employee was involved in forging invoices to cancel electricity fees for some consumers.

The employee was involved in bargaining with investors who have investment buildings in order to cancel 5000 Kuwaiti dinars worth of fees that they had to pay to ministry. Apparently, the deal involved the investor paying a KD 2,000 bribe to get the fees canceled.

In another case, the employee asked for KD 5,000 bribe from investors, who wanted to drop KD 10,000 from their total fees. The employee used the password of his colleagues at work to access the system and avoid being discovered by his superior officials.

According to an informed source, the employee canceled a total of KD 80,000 fees for various investors and ministry is reviewing invoices now to determine all canceled fees.

Meanwhile, the Secretariat General of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development will hold a meeting next Monday to discuss the development plan, in addition to discussing the possibility of applying a mechanical system to follow up and assess the direction of the plan. The meeting will be headed by the Chief of Authority of Following up the Governmental Performance Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah Al-Mubarak.The meeting will focus on the notices of certain governmental authorities about executing the plan from April 1st to June 30th.

However, the Secretariat General will start sending periodical reports to National Assembly, during its next term, regarding the plan and the accomplished projects; in order to affirm the government’s seriousness to adhere to all details of the current plan.
