Meet Epic: The new web browser from India with inbuilt antivirus

epic-browser An Indian startup company Hidden Reflex has launched first ever web browser from India. Epic has been stuffed with many features and applications. It has something which we have never heard of before, an integrated antivirus protection in a browser. The built in antivirus and antispyware is powered by ESET.

The browser has a sidebar with lot of widgets already installed such as skins, maps, jobs, news, gmail, yahoo, games and many more. Epic claims to have around 1500 free applications which can be added in the browser.

Social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Orkut are also included in the sidebar. You can log in to your account and on the same time continue working on other things. There are many utility functions in the Epic Browser which I liked. It has a free word processor, a to do tool, snippet app, timer and most importantly it allows you to access your files and folder from the browser itself.

It also has an application called Indic which allows you to type in many Indian languages. Hidden Reflex claims that the browser supports 12 Indian languages currently. The browser also allows you to watch videos from YouTube in a small window, so that you can browse other websites while watching videos.

Epic Web Browser is build on Mozilla Firefox and is customized for the taste of Indian users. We liked the look, feel and speed of the browser and is definitely worth trying. Get the browser here:

This is going to fail, hard!

Also, the name is just silly, sounds more like a nerdy Internet meme than a web browser.

Its just a kind of plugin for firefox as it looks like a derivative of Firefox.

    Its just Firefox.

Outstanding… The interface and features of epic are great. Mozilla is an open source software project and they welcome the modification of their application into various other forms. for example Cometbird browser which is another form of Firefox which is now also gaining popularity worldwide… If Cometbird can do it so can Epic.

The interface has been lifted from a Mac only browser called Camino and the theme (skin) is available as Camifox for Firefox Windows users but still the modification is very very ugly! Just compare all the major browsers out there with ‘Epic’ and you guys will realize what I’m talking about.

As for the features of the browser, well its just old wine in a new bottle kind of a thingy. Most of these features have been around since early 2004 via FF. The social networking & mail services integration is another idea lifted from another not so popular browser called Flock.

So basically this browser is a piss-poor mix up of ideas (some failed) that have been around on the Internet for years now. The built-in services and the anti-virus crap is gonna make it a major resource hog! A month from now, nobody will even remember this things’ existence!

Hey I like this browser! Needless to say, it feels just like Firefox (actually it is Firefox), except the Hindi language options. I’m not sure if Firefox plugins will work with Epic. It should be noted that the “anti-virus” software doesn’t work yet; I visited a website that is reported as an “attack page” in Firefox, but is browsable in Epic.

I was trying to download this….but after reading the above reviews from you guys, I think I will give it a miss….the only thing it can take advantage of is the inbuilt antivirus….if that can work, Epic will get popular and also dont forget about the patriotic factor among Indians which might make it popular!

dont forget about the patriotic factor among Indians which might make it popular!

Thats the sole reason why its even in the news! All hindis around the world are suddenly feeling bouts of patriotism they never really had!
