Almost 60 % of Kuwait’s residents are overweight or obese
Kuwait – Gethealthykuwait.com announced Monday in a press release provided to Al Watan Daily that 59 percent of people tested during its outreach visits to the Avenues Mall in the last two weeks were overweight or obese.
During three visits to the mall, the web site’s expert nutritionists tested and consulted over 577 people, reaching an overall total of 4134 people since its launch in June 2009, in its fight to combat obesity in the community.
The experts also determined that out of the people tested at the Avenues Mall, 23 percent were boarder line diabetic and 22 percent suffered from high cholesterol levels. In the last two visits, they tested 384 people to discover that 59 percent had Body Mass Index (BMI) results that were higher than the healthy range usually between 20 and 25.
