Kuwait – The Water Day festival organizers declared that Kuwait spends 530 million Kuwaiti dinars annually to provide its citizens and residents with usable water. The statement came at an event organized by Bayan School for Girls, in coordination with Farhan AlـKhaled Secondary School last week.

The participants noted that the expenditure would likely increase in the future, and they stressed the importance of preserving water resources.

MP Mikhlid AlـAzmi underscored the importance of raising the awareness among students about water wastage, and saving water in order to have a generation that is aware of the value of water. He also proposed penalizing the employers and employees who waste water.

The Manager of Farhan AlـKhaled School Emad AlـBahrani said that water is the reason for life, and that the existence of creatures is closely linked to the presence of water. He explained that finding sources of water is the main concern for scientists, since water is the secret behind life. He also noted that water is important for Muslims who want to wash for prayer.

Geologist at Kuwait University Dr. Fawzia AlـRuwaieh stated that Kuwait suffers from excess water consumption. She mentioned that that amount of money will increase in the future, particularly after the underground water is overdrawn due to high consumption. She warned that only 3 percent of the total amount of water found on Earth is pure.
