MoH Kuwait to launch measles vaccination campaign for all children

measles_vaccines Kuwait: All children in the age group of 1-7 years will be vaccinated against measles in a nation-wide campaign that will be launched from April 18-29, sources in the Ministry of Health (MoH) told Al-Sabah daily. If any child has fever or is suffering a disease, the child will not be vaccinated until he or she recovers completely, added sources.

The ministry is spending KD 200,000 for the vaccine, say sources, adding Kuwait didn’t witness measles outbreak since the last national vaccination campaign in 1998.

MoH has also decided to import MMR vaccine from Holland, noted sources.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated report, the Chest Diseases Hospital conducts 600-700 heart surgeries annually, in addition to nearly 4,000 catheter operations, Al-Qabas daily quoted Director of the hospital Dr Abbas Ramadan as saying.

Dr Ramadan said there are plans to establish a hospital for children suffering from heart problems and added that the old building of the Chest Hospital will be renovated to increase bed capacity and add an extra cafeteria.
