40 countries to participate in 11-day Quran recitation contest

Kuwait: Under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Kuwait international prize contest for the recitation of the Holy Quran will kick off tomorrow, the event’s higher commission said. The 11-day contest’s objective is to serve the Holy Quran through raising awareness on sciences and laws associated with it, the commission’s Chairman Adel Al-Falah said.

He added that the event crowned the country’s contributions in teaching Holy Quran to generations throughout the years.

The prize which draws its local and international significance from the fact that it is being patronized by HH the Amir promotes for Islamic teachings, values and educating the generation on their obligations towards their faith without failing to honor their achievements.

It is also a call for shunning bigotry and abiding by Islam’s moderate teachings that both Holy Quran and the sayings of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) call for, Assistant Undersecretary for Quran affairs and Islamic studies and the Chief of the contest’s executive commission Abdullah Al-Barrak said.

The judges committee is made up of experienced scholars and tutors, he said, adding that 40 countries were participating in the contest which adopts a unique electronic evaluating system used for the first time globally

Meanwhile, awards will be presented for those memorizing, and reciting Holy Quran, Al-Falah said, adding that a prize is allocated for those who come up with a technical project to serve Holy Quran.

An exhibition grouping private and public sectors in and outside Kuwait will be held on the sidelines of the contest.
