23,000 Toyota vehicles recalled in Saudi and UAE
Kuwait: Toyota continued to recall millions of its vehicles from around the world Monday, including the Arabian Gulf, which affected agencies and customers in the region with more than 23,000 vehicles recalled for maintenance in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In Kuwait, the agent awaits the arrival of the spare parts to start the recall, while Bahrain opened a free maintenance center.
The alaswaq.net Web site said that the number of recalled vehicles in the cars in the UAE according to Al-Futtaim Motors hit 3,120 vehicles and 20,783 in Saudi Arabia.
The Toyota agent in Qatar denied any recalls. It is worth noting that the recalled vehicles are the Toyota Avalon 2005-2010 models and the Toyota Sequoia 2009-2010 models. The gas pedals in those vehicles are to be repaired in order to prevent the pedal from staying depressed in the footwell after a driver lifts their foot from the pedal. The number of recalled vehicles worldwide has reportedly topped 9.1 million, and the Japanese car titan expects costs of up to 1.8-1.9 billion US dollars to repair the pedals.
Meanwhile, President of Toyota Motor Corp. Akio Toyoda promised Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama that the company will improve its quality standards to rebuild the reputation of the company that was severely scarred after a series of problems that led to the recall of the vehicles.
