Kuwait:- Health Minister Dr. Hilal AlـSayer has issued a decree exempting all expatriate employees for the ministry from paying fees for xـrays and nuclear medicine at all government hospitals and medical clinics. In a press statement to Al Watan, Head of the Legal Department for the ministry Mahmoud AlـAbdulhadi said that all employees, “without exception,” are excused from paying the said fees, adding that this decision was preceded by many decisions in the interest of expatriate employees.

Meanwhile, the ministry has taken serious steps regarding its technical role in the Jaber AlـAhmad Hospital project. Minister AlـSayer has formed a committee including heads of medical councils in cooperation with the Medical Engineering Department to outline the wards and rooms in the hospital and other medical issues. The committee will hold a meeting next Monday.

A source from the ministry informed Al Watan that “according to the medical and engineering situation, the project will not work at full capacity before 2014.”
It is worth noting that AlـSayer has demanded some amendments to the designs during his meetings with the Ministry of Public Works. He required the casualty ward to be expanded to include 50 beds in the Intensive Care Unit, 50 beds for temporarily hospitalized cases, and 8 operation rooms. In May 2007, the minister demanded that emergency power generators cover the entire hospital. These amendments were carried out by the Ministry of Public Works after the approval of the State Audit Bureau (SAB), which also approved constructing a third basement to accommodate 4,000 cars, according to the request of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-ـMohammed Al-Sabah.
