btw.. am lookin to pick a tripod (for D300 / D90) .. any suggestions??

If you're using it for general photography, ie Landscape, portraits, tabletop, products then just get an EX series from Velbon. I have an EX430 (I think) and its pretty rock solid. The only drawback is that it won't go low, like if you're shooting near to the ground level. For that functionality you'll probably need a higher end tripod or one of those Manfrotto ones with the independent legs. If you have a higher budget get a lightweight Manfrotto with a ball head.
