Flames123 wrote: yes i meant Birth certificate as well.....i did not get what you were getting at with the whole Baptism certificate thingy...perhaps you mean you were not baptised at all? i was asking if i could submit my Baptism certificate in lieu of my Birth.....it shows my age, DOb and both my parents name.... Edit: just saw ur edit...ok...good thinking.. During my time in India I would just produce passport page copy as my date of birth proof and it was enough for most things, ie, driver's license, bank account openings, college registration etc. I never really needed a BC but I don't know if a baptism certificate will hold weight unless you get it attested by the Indian embassy or similar authority since church papers are not considered official documents. Thats why we had to get registered in the registrar's office so that our marriage would be legal in the eyes of the law

Flames123 wrote: hmmm.....can i get my Baptism certificate attested to legalise it? or show it to the embassy to legalise it? From what I found out last time, you have to go to the area where the baptism certificate was issued and get it attested from the local administration office, ie, if the church is located in a village jurisdiction then go to local panchayath, if its a town/city then corporation office. You get the idea right? Once its been registered there you'll have to get it attested by the embassy or whatever. Check with any of your relatives in Mangalore and ask them to send you the 500RS stamp paper or whatever is required for this. Best thing is to call your local panchayat or corporation admin and 'grease the wheels' there
