GPS bought in Kuwait are usually loaded with GCC maps. You would probably have to load Indian/Asia maps for it to work in India:)

Technically, a GPS cannot work in India except in certain areas big cities. The thing is, a GPS works best on roads that run north-south and east-west. In India, however, roads run in all directions and all angles, so I'm not sure how one would be able to program a GPS to give directions in such terrain.

Hi Rahul,
I'm afraid whoever gave you that piece of information is completely wrong.
Any GPS device will work in any position on the globe. Whether you'll be able to find a restaurant or petrol pump near you will depend on the maps that you have installed.
If you know how to navigate using coordinates you can find your way no matter where you are using the GPS device.

If you're thinking of buying a GPS for use in India you might want to check out http://www.mapmyindia.com/

If you have a branded device you're probably using a Navteq map.
Check this link if you want to buy the map for India.

That was funny.

Of course, GPS works quiet well in India. Just make sure you load India map on your device.

Coincidentally, my 2 brothers and their families are currently traversing India by car - starting from Goa, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, etc. and travelling all the way to North up to Delhi - and they plan to return via Rajasthan.

My brother is using his iPhone with the built-in maps as he has a 3G connection, and his experience is that it works flawlessly. If I recollect, the map does not have turn-by-turn navigation, but as long as you get real-time update as to where you are, its pretty good for long-distance travels, as you just need to know which highways to take.
