am preparing myself for a new desktop. reason: Media editing
I have not come to any definite specs yet. Here is what I have in mind:-
cpu: i7 or core2 quad motherboard: intel dx58so or asus compatible one ( do not want price to be more than 50~60kd) ram: 4gb ddr2/ddr3 ram storage: ~ 1terra display card: ati/nevidea smps: ~350watts capacity Sound card: I don't really care. (not meant for gaming or as media player)
I am looking forward to put together one.
Share your suggestions please.

You are aiming a bit too high! That configuration is gonna cost over 500 KD.
what kind of media editing exactly ? photo raw files? PS ? movies ? 3D?
Make up your mind over DDR2 or DDR3, you need to choose a mobo carefully over that selection.

AVHCD file editing as well as video capturing from Hi8 camera are some of the objectives.
I am just waiting for hawally market to settle down after Eid Buzz.

just curious, how much are you willing to spend ?
You need to invest in at least a 500 watts PSU if you want your chosen specs to perform and not freeze due poor power management of cheap PSUs.
Get ThermalTake or OCZ, the most stable units available in Hawally. You'll get relaibale Corsair units as well but they are expensive.
If you need even mid-level graphics card from nvidia like the 275 or 285 GT series then the SO mobo is going to be a problem. Check the SATA ports on the mobo, they are not angled downwards to equip these huge cards. Check other i7 LGA 1366 mobos from MSI or Gigabyte, they'll be angled down. Check the MSI Eclipse.
1TB drives are cheap these days, check for the green series from WD.
if you want i7 then I think LGA 1366 mobos support DDR3 only.Unlike DDR2 the latency values for DDR3 is high but the faster clock speeds will compensate for it. But they are slightly expensive, get it if you can afford them.
No need for aditional sound cards, the onboard ones on most mobos are superb these days. And quad and i7 CPUs have enough room to assist them munch all the data.
