When one thinks of ayurveda india is the place that rushes to the mind. 'Ayurveda' and 'India' - two words that go hand in hand because of the fact that this medical science took its roots in India, the ancient land, home to diverse cultural and commercial wealth. Ayurveda developed in India during the ancient Vedic period about 5000 years ago. The Rishis of the Vedic era had described about the treatment methods and medicines of Ayurveda through their hymns and chants. The texts and literatures known as the Vedas, especially the Atharva Veda, provide reference to the hymns related to Ayurvedic medicine system.

India is the treasure house of various valuable flora and fauna, minerals and oils which are of atmost importance in the preparation of Ayurvedic medicines and drugs. If the drugs and other prescriptions are acquired in the appropriate manner, then diseases can be cured effectively and without any side effects. This therapeutic method is now practiced all across the country and is being widely acknowledged due to its potential in curing a number of chronic diseases.

Thus, India has gained worldwide acclaim through its ethnic and far-reaching Ayurvedic treatment.Kerala along with many other states is considered to be the hub of Ayurvedic treatment in India. This has also proved to have a positive effect on the tourism sector of the country as tourists and travellers from every part of the world are now visiting India not only for its scenic beauty and historical relevance but also to adopt Ayurveda as their way of life.
